Actos – General Overview

Actos is one of the newest addition to the class of drugs called ‘thiazolidinediones’ and is used to control blood sugar levels. Actos can be prescribed for people with type 2 diabetes. The drug acts by reducing the resistance of the body to insulin. It can be taken either alone or in combination with other anti-diabetes medications which include metformin or insulin.

Being one of the latest innovations for the treatment of type 2 diabetes Actos has a number of advantages. It is always prescribed once per day and without regards to meals. Most of side effects reported during clinical trials were mild and included headache, muscle pain, tooth disorder and sore throat.
